"The neighborhood group" conducts separate work with drivers who have violated traffic rules five or more times. This was announced by the head of the Traffic Safety Service of the Public Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Ibragimov informed.

During the meeting, it was reported that in the first half of this year, the number of road traffic accidents in the country decreased by 7.6% compared to the same period last year, the cases of deaths by 1.1%, and the cases of injuries by 9.2%. However, exact numbers were not provided.

"This does not comfort us. Every traffic accident-related death demands that we work seriously. Every traffic accident occurring today is being studied based on thorough scientific analysis... We have set a number of tasks. Each factor causing accidents is being deeply analyzed and related to their elimination. One such factor is the inadequacy of road infrastructure. Separate working groups have been formed to address these issues. Joint efforts with relevant authorities are being made to prevent road traffic incidents that arise either from accident hotspots or from improper infrastructure," — said Sherzod Ibragimov.

Measures for digitization are being implemented to prevent accidents related to speeding. Separate measures are also designated to improve the professional skills of drivers in driving schools and examination centers.

"We have classified drivers who have committed five or more severe violations into a separate group. A targeted work practice has been initiated together with the 'neighborhood group'. National Guard instructor-pedagogues and instructor-psychologists are teaching children traffic rules starting from kindergartens and schools with the aim of reducing child fatalities on the roads. Consistent efforts are being made to install traffic lights and speed measuring devices in schools at pedestrian crossings," — he said.

We remind that the community-based "group of seven" includes the neighborhood chairman, the assistant to the mayor, the youth leader, the women's activist, the prevention inspector, the social worker, and the tax inspector. Moreover, Traffic Police officers are assigned to neighborhoods.

In 2023, drivers deprived of their driving rights in Uzbekistan committed 707 traffic accidents, resulting in the death of 212 people and 546 injuries. During the meeting of the new head of the Traffic Safety Directorate in the Senate in August, it was stated that it is necessary to intensify the liability for violating traffic rules.
