From now on, permits will no longer be required for cargo transportation between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This is stipulated in the protocol on the amendments and supplements introduced to the agreement between the governments of the two countries on "International Road Transport," ratified by the lower house of the Tajikistan parliament as specified.
Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrahim, stated during the parliamentary meeting that the amendments are intended to simplify the transit of cargo vehicles through the territories of the two states. According to him, following these changes, the transit of cargo vehicles will be carried out without the need for permit slips.
It is noted that Tajikistan's cargo carriers conduct more than 36,000 transits through the territory of Uzbekistan annually. After ratification, transit transports in the territories of both states will be carried out without the need for a one-time permit referred to as "dovol".
"This protocol was signed to achieve strategic goals of improving transit conditions and turning the country into a transit state on the part of Tajikistan," the report says.
It is mentioned that for this protocol to come into force, it is necessary to be ratified by the lower house of the Tajikistan parliament. According to the legislation of Tajikistan, international agreements are not sent for consideration to the upper house of parliament alongside the "State budget" law.
