“Afrosiyob” train has not made a profit in any year, only operated at a loss. This was announced by the chairman of the board of “Uzbekistan Railways” joint-stock company Zuafar Narzullaev at the fifty-eighth plenary session of the Senate here.

At the session, Senator Abdurahim Erkaev mentioned that the prices for high-speed train tickets have become more expensive than plane ticket prices. In response to his objection, Zuafar Narzullaev emphasized that this situation is normal, and it is an internationally established practice.

“Last year alone, Afrosiyob suffered a loss of 238 billion som. In Europe, in general, on a global scale, high-speed train tickets are more expensive than airplane and regular train tickets. The prices for regular train tickets are maintained based on a certain set tariff.”

“A new program is being launched from January next year. In the future, the prices of high-speed train tickets are expected to be equal to those of airplane tickets. In this program, the price of a train ticket will vary just like airplane ticket prices,” said the head of “Uzbekistan Railways”.

Additionally, he mentioned that the prices for other regular train tickets would be regulated in agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
