In a session of the Kyrgyzstan Supreme Council (parliament), deputy Balbak Tulobayev mentioned that Lake Issyk-Kul is drying up year by year, and asked the head of the Cabinet of Ministers about the measures being taken to solve this problem. This was reported by zamon.uz here

Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov mentioned that a national program is being developed by specialists.

"Water is not coming to Issyk-Kul from Korkyrid, and the Kochkor River also used to flow into the lake. Farmers are using spring water. We will share our plans on how to save Issyk-Kul at the conference. We will invite scientists from all over the world. Issyk-Kul must not repeat the fate of the dried-up Aral Sea," he said.

According to the publication, to preserve Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan might supply less water to neighboring countries. Akylbek Japarov announced that explanatory work is being carried out with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in this regard.

"They will be explained the necessity of saving Issyk-Kul," he said.
