The European Union Summit was unable to approve the 18th package of sanctions against Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced by European Council President Antonio Costa at a press conference following the summit.
It is noted that Slovakia has blocked the approval of the next package of sanctions. Therefore, EU members will have to discuss this issue again.
“Work on the 18th package of sanctions will continue,” says Costa.
In addition, besides Slovakia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also opposed the current implementation of the restrictions.
“Sanctions will lead to an increase in utility bills within Europe itself,” says Szijjarto.
It is reported that the 18th sanctions package includes measures such as reducing the price of Russian oil from 60 dollars to 45 dollars, cancelling operations with banks that bypass sanctions, and “Nord Stream” and “Nord Stream 2” gas pipelines.
