Currently, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is participating in the first session of the newly convened Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
In his speech, the head of state expressed sincere congratulations to those who have been deemed worthy of high trust and elected as members of the Senate. He expressed hope that the senators would employ all their knowledge and experience, strength and potential in building the New Uzbekistan, creating a peaceful, prosperous, free, and affluent life for our people.
At the meeting, it was noted that both governors and council chairpersons should, first and foremost, prioritize the interests of the local population in their areas, working together as one team.
Currently, as specified in the Constitution, governors are responsible and accountable for the strict enforcement of legal documents at the district, city, and regional levels, and for the socio-economic, cultural, and ecological development of their territories.
The Senate was said to provide close support to local governance and councils to ensure that they work in solidarity and that their relations are properly organized, which would serve to properly organize these processes.
The President called for serious preparation for a reform that involves ensuring that governors do not preside over the district and city councils in the upper chamber.
