The United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) previously announced sanctions against three former Uzbek officials accused of sexual crimes against residents of an orphanage in Urgench.
"The former director of the orphanage, Yulduz Khudaibergenova, the former head of the Khorezm regional justice department, Oybek Masharipov, and the former head of the Yangiariq district emergency situations department, Anvar Kuriazovs, have committed crimes of human trafficking and gender violence, including physical and sexual violence against children in the state orphanage," — says the department's report.
All assets and property interests located in the United States or controlled by U.S. persons of these individuals will be frozen. Any companies in which they own a 50% or greater interest may also be blocked.
