Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to supply gas to European countries through Poland. This was reported by “Kommersant” here.
According to Putin, the contract for gas transit through Ukraine will not be extended a few days before the new year. Moscow is ready to continue the transit under contract with any counterpart. Ukraine has stated that it is willing to supply gas to Europe from any country other than Russia.
“There is no contract, and it cannot be established within three or four days. It will not happen”, Putin said.
He emphasized that Russia has never refused to supply gas to Europe and is in favor of not politicizing economic matters.
“Poland closed the route through its territory — there is also an active route there, no one has harmed it, there have been no explosions, it is functioning, just press the button — then everything will go through the territory of Poland. It is called the Yamal-Europe and it goes directly through the territory of Poland. Please, launch it tomorrow — we will supply”, the Russian president said.
The contract for the supply of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine ends at the end of 2024. Ukraine has indicated that it does not want to extend it. The transit agreement with “Gazprom” has been in effect since 2019.
In addition, Russia also delivers oil to the European Union through Ukraine via the “Druzhba” oil pipeline. The contract between Ukraine's “Ukrtransnafta” and Russia's “Transneft” companies will be in effect until 2029.
