North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan on Tuesday, January 14. This was reported by South Korea's Yonhap news agency, citing the country's Joint Chiefs of Staff here.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the launch was recorded at approximately 9:30 local time from the Kangge area of Chagan province. The missiles flew about 250 kilometers before falling into the sea. South Korean military did not specify the number of missiles launched by North Korea.
Seoul is regarding the launch as another provocation by Pyongyang. "Considering the range of the short-range ballistic missiles, they are usually believed to be targeting South Korea," Yonhap writes.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff described the launch as "an overt provocation" that threatens peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and promised to be fully prepared in case Pyongyang makes "the wrong decision." South Korean military added that they are "intensifying surveillance and vigilance while preparing for new launches, exchanging information closely with the United States and Japan regarding North Korean missiles."
