The price of potatoes in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, has risen to 60-65 som per kilogram (approximately close to 9-10 thousand som). The country's Ministry of Agriculture intends to temporarily restrict the export of potatoes. This was reported by 24.kg here.
Deputy Eldar Abakirov asked the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry for information about cultivation season and plans for the coming year.
“We grow potatoes in large areas — in Issyk-Kul region, Oloy, Chon-Oloy, Kochkor. We are happy for the farmers, but for the population, 65 som is expensive. If a bag of flour costs 1,700 som, a bag of potatoes costs 2,5-3 thousand som,” said the deputy.
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry is considering imposing a temporary restriction on the export of potatoes. This can prevent speculation in the prices of socially significant products and ensure food security.
Minister Bakit Toroboev instructed state agencies, the president's deputies in the regions, and local authorities to closely monitor food prices at a meeting held on food prices in the country.
