Great Britain and Germany are on the verge of signing a new agreement aimed at providing mutual military assistance in the event of war. This was reported by Politico.

According to Berlin officials, the initiative is linked to Russia's increasingly aggressive policies and the declining confidence in NATO amid the growing likelihood of Donald Trump's return to power in the U.S.

"This is not contrary to NATO's famous Article 5. Rather, it is a complementary measure," the German statement said.

The agreement once again demonstrates Europe's attempts to act independently of the U.S.
