The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued a regulatory document in December 2024 requiring all pilgrims coming to perform Umrah and Hajj from 2025 to be vaccinated against meningitis infection.
Recently, messages have been widely spread among the population and on social networks that "the decision that one must get vaccinated against meningitis before going for Hajj and Umrah has been cancelled, now you can go to Umrah without the vaccine".
The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee has stated that these reports are not true, and that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not officially revoked the requirement for pilgrims going for Umrah and Hajj to have documentation of vaccination against meningitis.
In order to prevent the entry of infectious diseases into our country and to maintain epidemiological stability, vaccination against meningitis is recommended for pilgrims.
