According to the World Health Organization, more than 50 million people worldwide suffer from epilepsy. Regrettably, the number increases by 5 million annually. The Ministry of Health's Press Service reports this.

This pathology is a chronic disease of the brain. In 70% of cases, it develops before the age of 20.

However, epilepsy does not always manifest itself with clear symptoms. This decreases the possibility of early detection of the disease. Consequently, various complications may arise.

For example, photostimulation is one of the primary methods of diagnosing the disease. In this process, bright light flashes are directed at the patient's eyes with the help of medical technology.

However, this method is only useful for diagnosing photosensitive epilepsy. There was a need for new diagnostic methods for types of the disease that do not have sensitivity to light.

Scientists from the Baltic Federal University and the N.I. Pirogov National Medical Surgical Center in Russia have developed a new method of electroencephalography analysis. This process utilizes artificial intelligence technology.

The researchers tested the new type of examination on 108 individuals. Half of them were patients suffering from non-photosensitive epilepsy, and the other half were healthy individuals.

It turns out that the new analysis method can diagnose non-photosensitive forms of epilepsy with 71% accuracy. This innovation is expected to undergo widespread testing in the future.
