In recent days, there have been reports spreading on social networks about commercial banks sending SMS messages concerning bank cards owned by citizens. The Central Bank provided an explanation.
According to it, these SMS messages are being sent by commercial banks in accordance with the relevant instruction of the Central Bank for the purpose of informing citizens about the bank cards issued in their names.
«The bank card numbers mentioned in the SMS messages are partially concealed, taking into account the requirements of information security and cybersecurity,» — states the Central Bank's announcement.
Furthermore, in case citizens encounter any misunderstandings related to the bank cards mentioned in the SMS messages being issued in their names, they are advised to contact the servicing commercial bank to clarify the situation and to close any bank cards they are not using.
In addition to the traditional method of opening a bank card, bank cards in citizens' names can also be issued as a result of fraudsters taking over a citizen's personal account in the bank's mobile application or through the citizen's own registration in the bank's mobile application.
