Taxi driving in Uzbekistan has been included in the list of activities that freelancers can engage in. This was stated in the President's decree “On additional measures to create favorable conditions for the sustainable development of the services sector” adopted on February 27as indicated.
According to the decision, individuals driving light vehicles may engage in the activity of transporting passengers within cities, around cities, and between cities as freelancers, and it is determined that they can engage in this activity based on a license certificate.
For the activity of unassigned taxi service, a license fee is charged at the rate of 1 time the basic calculation amount (375,000 UZS) annually. In this case, no service fee for providing state services is charged. The license will specify information about the self-employed person and their vehicle engaged in the unassigned taxi activity, the area of service provision, and the validity period of the license.
Self-employed carriers must install a Taxi sign lamp on the roof of their car. Citizens employed under labor contracts in other sectors can also engage in transportation activities as self-employed individuals if they are registered as such.
Such taxi drivers are required to have their vehicles technically inspected once a year. Additionally, they must undergo a medical examination annually at multi-disciplinary clinics and private medical institutions entered in the UzTrans information system database.
