For the first time in the last 15 years, the state of Louisiana in the USA has carried out the death penalty using nitrogen gas. This was reported by zamon.uz writing.

According to local officials, Jesse Hoffman, who was found guilty in 1996 of kidnapping, raping, and murdering a woman, was executed by this method.

Initially, the execution process was halted by a court decision, but later, the appellate court reversed the decision and allowed the execution to proceed.

This method leads to death by depriving the human body of oxygen. As a result of sending nitrogen gas through a special mask, the prisoner loses consciousness and dies from suffocation.

Hoffman's lawyers had attempted to change the method of execution to a “more humane” option, but their request was denied. Thus, after many years, the state of Louisiana carried out the execution using nitrogen gas.
