A deputy elected from Russia's Zabaykalsky Krai has been working remotely from Ukraine for 4 years — he has been receiving citizens via video link through VPN, "solving problems".
A local deputy elected from the Zabaykalsky Krai reported that he had been living in the territory of Ukraine and working remotely for four years. According to him, he received citizens via video connection, with the help of a VPN service, and worked no worse than other deputies.
The deputy said in his statement: “I have performed my duties conscientiously. I have conducted video communication through VPN, listened to the problems of the citizens, and helped them. I believe I have operated more effectively compared to many other deputies”.
Previously, there were discussions about stripping this deputy of his mandate. However, the council opposed this.
This situation sparked intense discussions among the public. From a legislative point of view, the issue of the deputy’s activity and his obligation to be physically present at his workplace was once again on the agenda.
The deputy plans to return to his homeland during an exchange of prisoners and civilians between Ukraine and Russia later on.
