The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced a reduction in assistance to the newly displaced persons in Ukraine, as reported by zamon.uz.
According to the organization's representative, Carolina Lindholm Billing, this decision was made due to the cessation of financial assistance from the USA and a decrease in the overall number of donors.
The reduction includes psychosocial support, provision of materials for temporary housing construction, and financial aid.
The UN Refugee Agency has been assisting close to 450,000 people since the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion and received 40 percent of its funding from the USA in 2024.
Since the beginning of this year, nearly 7,700 individuals have received clothing, hygiene products, as well as legal and psychosocial support through transit centers in Pavlohrad and Sumy cities of Ukraine.
"They are arriving with virtually nothing and deep psychological traumas," — said Billing.
As noted by UN representatives, if necessary financial assistance is provided, the organization and its partners have sufficient capacity and resources to provide effective assistance.
