Abdusalom Tukhtasunzoda, the former governor of Kanibadam city in the Sughd region of Tajikistan, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of bribery and fraud. This was reported by a source in "Asia-Plus."

On April 30 of this year, the Kanibadam City Court found Tokhtasunzoda guilty under Article 319 (bribery) and Article 247 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan. The trial was held behind closed doors, and the verdict has not yet entered into legal force. Therefore, the details of the trial were not disclosed to the public.

According to reports, the 50-year-old Tokhtasunzoda was appointed acting mayor of Konibodom by presidential decree in 2020, and later was officially confirmed as the mayor of the city. He held this position until January 2024.

Tokhtasunzoda was arrested in Uzbekistan in April of this year and extradited to Tajikistan.

Along with the former governor, several other high-ranking officials from Konibodom were also arrested. It is not yet known on what specific charges they were detained.

Although the authorities did not comment on this, it is said that they were arrested after a visit by a special group investigating the mysterious and sensational murders that occurred in Konibodom in 2023-2024. As a result of these crimes, 23 people, including seven family members, died. The Prosecutor General's Office of Tajikistan reported that the crimes were solved on December 21, 2024, and four suspects were detained.
