“Uzbekhydroenergo” JSC made an official statement regarding the technogenic situation that occurred in the South Fergana canal in Andijan.
It was reported that in the canal located in Bulakbashi district, Andijan region, a temporary water diversion through a bypass channel for the construction of a small hydropower plant led to soil erosion on the right bank of the canal.
This project is related to the construction of the JFK-3 small hydroelectric power station, funded by the financial resources of the Russian Federation's “MPR” financial institute, with a capacity of 6.9 MW and an anticipated annual electricity production of 33 million kWh.
Although the bypass canal was designed to carry 60 m³/s of water, the actual flow of 70 m³/s resulted in soil erosion.
Currently, efforts to rectify the technical malfunction are being carried out at a rapid pace. All necessary machinery and workforce have been mobilized, with a plan to fully restore the canal's normal operation by May 9, at 14:00.
Most importantly, an official promise was made to fully compensate for damages to the relevant residential and private household properties.
