US President Donald Trump proposed a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine after a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump wrote about this on his Truth Social platform.
"If the ceasefire regime is violated, the United States and its allies will impose additional sanctions against Russia. "Together with Europeans, I strive to establish lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine," Trump stated.
This statement followed a conversation with Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian leader called the conversation "good" and said they discussed the need for concrete steps towards peace.
"Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire today. We expect a clear decision regarding this from Russia. We are ready for negotiations in any format, but Moscow must demonstrate its serious approach," Zelenskyy stressed.
He emphasized that on May 7, Ukraine once again proposed to stop the war for at least 30 days.
The Russian side has not yet reacted to either Zelenskyy's or Trump's initiatives. Earlier, Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire until 00:00 on May 11 in connection with Victory Day.
Also, Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the President of Russia, stated on the Russian state television channel that there is a desire for a meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States. According to him, "Washington has begun to understand Moscow's demands and position." At the same time, he emphasized that the US is causing more disappointment than it is causing disappointment in Russia.
