The safety level rating is formed based on 23 criteria, including crime rate, risk of military conflicts, social stability, and the population's sense of security.

According to the report, the five safest countries in the world were the following:

  1. Iceland;
  2. New Zealand;
  3. Switzerland;
  4. Slovenia;
  5. Ireland.

According to analysts, these countries' high rankings are attributed to low crime rates, political stability, a strong social protection system, and a high level of trust among the population.

In particular, Iceland has held the top spot in the ranking almost continuously since 2008. New Zealand, meanwhile, rose to second place based on the results of 2026.

Switzerland stands out for its economic and political stability, while Slovenia made it into the top five safest countries for the first time. Ireland was highly rated for its low level of violence and its distance from international conflicts.

The report also noted a positive result for Uzbekistan. The country took 37th place among 163 nations in the Global Peace Index 2026 ranking, moving up 10 positions compared to last year.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan recorded the highest result among Central Asian countries, taking first place in the region.
