The Israeli military's strikes on hospitals in Gaza on May 13 resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people. This was reported by The Guardian here.
The airstrikes were directed at the European Hospital complex near the city of Khan Yunis. The attack left large craters and cracks. A portion of a damaged bus fell into a hole.
Israeli media reported the attack targeted HAMAS leader Muhammad Sinwar, who is the brother of the group's former leader Yahya Sinwar, killed during an Israeli operation in October 2024. HAMAS has yet to confirm the target of the attack. Israel claims a "HAMAS command center" was located beneath the hospital.
During the attack, British surgeon Tom Potokar documented the consequences of the strikes on the European Hospital, stressing the impossibility of carrying patients in for surgery due to the destruction.
Another Israeli attack was directed at Gaza's Al-Nasser Hospital. The Israeli military forces stated that the attack resulted in the elimination of "key HAMAS terrorists," including well-known Palestinian journalist Hasan Aslih who was accused of participating in HAMAS's attacks against Israel, documenting the situation, and posting it online on October 7, 2023.
