After the eruption of the Dukono volcano in North Maluku province of Indonesia, ash spread to a height of 1600 meters erupted.

The volcanic observation post reported the eruption occurred close to dawn local time, reports  Antara News.

According to the statement, the volcano, located at an elevation of 1087 meters above sea level, ejected ash to a height of 1600 meters as a result of the eruption.

Officials warned residents around the volcano to wear masks.

The Dukono volcano is recognized as one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia.

There are about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which are located in the seismic and "Pacific Ring of Fire" volcanic region.
