The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, spoke about the current international situation in his speech at the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
“The world today is undergoing significant trials. The threats to global security and sustainable development are increasingly intensifying.
Geopolitical processes are rapidly changing before our eyes. The arms race in the world is escalating again. The military expenditures of the major countries have increased by 1.5 times compared to 2010, reaching 2.5 trillion dollars.
Due to the consequences of the economic crisis and the shortage of financial resources, the growth rates of the world's gross domestic product have been declining for three consecutive years.
Regrettably, we all see, know, and feel that the norms of international law and the power of diplomacy are weakening. Every day, events are happening around the world...
Most distressingly, attention to the most urgent problems for humanity – food security, poverty, climate change, and the like – is diminishing.
Restoring the universal trust in peace, justice, and the value of human life is more critical than ever. We believe that restoring this universal trust in the principles of peace, justice, and human dignity is more important than ever.
We believe that the situation related to Ukraine should only be resolved through diplomatic means. We welcome the direct negotiations taking place in Istanbul.
At the same time, I would like to draw your attention to the longstanding Gaza tragedy. Nothing can justify the witnessing of numerous innocent people being killed in front of our eyes in the 21st century. The only solution to this problem is to resolve the conflict based on the norms of international law and adopted resolutions. The Palestinian people have the right to their own independent state.
Another issue on the global agenda is to assist in the peaceful and stable development of neighboring Afghanistan. Engaging in constructive dialogue with the current government of this state on the international stage and preventing its isolation is more important than ever, we believe.
After all, peace and economic development in this country are vital factors for the long-term development of all the surrounding regions.
I call on all our partner countries for open and extensive international cooperation on the problems I have just highlighted. Because we believe that investments, the main theme of the forum, are not only a means of economic development but also a guarantee of peace and stability.
Let's together create such an investment climate that, while generating income, will also elevate human dignity, ensure his vital interests, and serve the prosperity of society!” – emphasized the state leader.
