Russia has never threatened Azerbaijan and will not threaten it. This statement was made by the Press Secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov.
According to Peskov, the Ukrainian government is behind the attempts to damage the relations between official Moscow and Baku.
“Russia has not threatened Azerbaijan. The investigative activities carried out in Yekaterinburg are aimed at uncovering crimes against citizens of Azerbaijan. However, the Kiev regime is trying to use this situation for political purposes,” – says Peskov.
He also stated that the legal interests of Azerbaijan citizens detained in Russia are being protected.
Why did the tension arise?
According to reports, at the end of June, in the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, Azerbaijani citizens were detained as part of an investigation into a murder case from 2020. During the raid, two brothers – the Safarovs were killed, and another five people were detained. They are suspected of murder.
Additionally, the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora, Shahin Shikhli, was detained for a short period and then released after questioning. The well-known businessman Yusuf Khalilov was also among those detained.
