Two forged engravings by Pablo Picasso were sold at an art auction in the city of Stuttgart, Germany. One of them was purchased by an art dealer from the city of Worms and has already been confiscated by investigators. The second was bought by an Austrian collector.
Law enforcement agencies investigating this case suspect an Italian male citizen as the perpetrator. For years, he has been forging artworks belonging to Picasso's famous graphic collection titled "Suite Vollard," consisting of 100 etchings, and selling them on the international art market.
In collaboration with the police and the Picasso Museum in Münster, two more counterfeit artworks were seized before they could be auctioned. The investigation is ongoing.
