The destruction of the statue of the great thinker Alisher Navoi in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif on social media has drawn public attention.
Regarding the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan immediately contacted representatives of the Afghan government and received an official explanation.
According to information provided by the Afghan side, the location where the statue was installed was deemed unworthy of the scholar's memory, and because a new, beautiful memorial complex is planned to be built, the statue was removed by the local authorities.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the demolition work was not agreed upon with the Ministry of Culture and Information of Afghanistan and the public, and regret was expressed by the Afghan side regarding this situation.
The Afghan government has pledged to take concrete measures to immortalize the name of Alisher Navoi.
Specifically, it is planned to erect a new monument, landscape the surrounding area, restore information related to the poet's work, and name the square where the complex will be located after Alisher Navoi.
The Afghan side expressed its firm commitment to properly preserving the memory of the great thinker.
