A case has been exposed in the Uzun district of the Surkhandarya region where a husband and his mother violently detained his wife and her 5-month-old baby in a barn. They took advantage of the woman's mental state and her speech impediments.

According to the regional DIA, a report was received on August 26 that a woman and her infant were being held in unsanitary conditions.

A neighborhood inspector arrived at the scene and broke down the barn door to enter. The woman and the infant were hospitalized, and the suspect, a man, along with his 3 close relatives, were arrested.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident under Part 7, paragraphs "a" and "e" of Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code. The investigation has been placed under strict control by the regional DIA.
