A major protest against the ban of the organization "Palestine Action" in London, the capital of Great Britain, took an unexpected turn. BBC News reported on this.
It was noted that 890 people were arrested during the action. The majority of those arrested were detained under anti-terrorism laws for supporting a banned group. Another 17 participants are accused of attacking police officers.
The protesters, however, stated that they are only fighting for peace and accused the police of spreading false information. They held placards that read, "I am against genocide, I support Palestine Action."
For reference, "Palestine Action" was banned as a terrorist organization after it stormed an RAF military base in July and damaged aircraft. Supporting this group is now punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
In a sharp statement, the UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, said, "Supporting Palestine and supporting a terrorist group are absolutely different things."
