On November 11, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation of proposals for the ecology sector.
According to the official release, there is a systemic fragmentation in Uzbekistan's ecology sector: responsibility and authority are divided among various agencies. As a result, the effectiveness of work in the sector has not always been at the desired level.
In this regard, the meeting reviewed proposals developed for improving management in the sector.
It was proposed to implement and finance projects related to improving environmental quality, urban air quality, developing green spaces, fostering a responsible attitude towards nature, and preserving natural heritage in a centralized manner.
Information was provided on plans to establish ecological control based on separate approaches and to expand the authority of responsible agencies. In this context, the following measures were reviewed:
- promptly addressing violations in the sector;
- preventing illegal tree cutting;
- preventing air pollution,
- expanding public participation;
- improving environmental regulation in industry,
- measures to ensure the preservation of green areas in populated areas.
The official report did not specify exactly what these measures are.
It was noted that the head of state approved the presented proposals and gave instructions to further refine them from the perspective of taking quality and efficiency in management to a new level, and strengthening control and accountability.
