On December 26, the special prosecution team investigating former President Yoon Suk Yeol demanded a 10-year prison sentence for him. This was reported by The Korea Times. Prosecutors are accusing the former president of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant, abusing his official authority, and falsifying official documents.
It is reported that the prosecution demanded a 5-year sentence for obstructing official duties, 3 years for abuse of authority, and 2 years for falsifying documents and using them illegally. Prosecutors emphasized that Yoon used state institutions to conceal illegal activities and disrupt the constitutional balance.
According to the charges, on January 3, Yoon remained at his residence for several weeks and did not allow investigators inside. It is also alleged that he ordered presidential security service personnel to block the investigators. Prosecutors assessed this situation as unprecedented resistance to the execution of a legally issued warrant.
Furthermore, Yoon is also accused of excluding certain ministers from a Cabinet meeting just before the declaration of martial law, and after martial law was canceled, attempting to falsify official documents retroactively.
For reference, Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in South Korea on December 3 last year, but it was canceled six hours later. On December 14, impeachment was declared against him, and his presidential powers were suspended. The former president is currently involved in court proceedings for several criminal cases.
