Syria has officially announced the introduction of a new national currency into circulation. This was announced by the Chairman of the country's Central Bank, Abdulqadir al-Hasriya. This was reported by the publication Zamon.uz reported.
According to the Central Bank head's emphasis, the introduction of the new currency is a significant national event in Syria's modern history, signifying the beginning of a new economic and monetary-credit period in the country. He noted that this initiative is an important step on the path to strengthening financial independence and achieving economic stability.
In his address on social media, Abdulqadir al-Hasriya stressed that the new currency is a symbol of financial independence achieved in the post-liberation era. According to his words, the updated monetary unit is the result of reforms being carried out by the Central Bank and reflects the country's direction towards economic recovery.
Furthermore, the new currency is expected to help reduce dependence on external economic factors, stabilize the financial system, and increase public confidence.
Detailed information regarding the new national currency will be presented at a special meeting scheduled for December 28, 2025. It is planned to officially announce the design of the banknotes, their denominations, and the mechanisms for introducing the currency into circulation.
