Prior to the negotiations, leaders from both sides met with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi. We recall that in 2025, Steve Witkopf and Abbas Araghchi also held five rounds of negotiations in Oman, but they ended without results. In July, after the US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, contacts between the sides were halted. On January 26, Donald Trump called for concluding a new agreement envisaging Iran's complete renunciation of nuclear weapons.
