Deputies of the Ecological Party faction are proposing a new draft law aimed at ensuring humane treatment of animals.

Although cases of cruelty towards animals have decreased in recent years, they still occur. According to the new draft law, penalties for cruel treatment will be increased: fines are expected to be raised up to 200 times the base calculation amount (82 million soums) or imprisonment for up to 1 year.

It also envisions the obligation to cover veterinary costs for harm caused to animals, restricting cases of abandonment, and clearly defining the responsibilities of owners. The draft law also aims to create amenities for animals in public places and expand opportunities for using transport with guide and assistance animals.

The Ecoparty called on the public to come forward with proposals and requested active participation in the process of improving the draft law. Previously, M. Sh., who committed cruelty towards cats in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region, was punished with 15 days of administrative arrest.
