Telegram founder Pavel Durov called WhatsApp's encryption system "one of the biggest cases of consumer deception in history." He emphasized that, contrary to the app's statements, it can read users' messages and transmit them to third parties. Durov stated that Telegram has never and will never engage in such practices.

WhatsApp, in response to Durov's post on the X network, clarified that end-to-end encryption is used for private messages and calls.

According to company representatives, the messenger provides end-to-end encryption for private and group chats, supports multiple devices, voice and video calls, and also has fully encrypted backups.
