Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he returned the Order of the White Eagle to Polish President Karol Nawrocki via mail.
According to Zelensky's post on his Telegram channel, the Polish side described this order as a symbol of the country's highest trust and gratitude.
"The Polish president emphasized that the Order of the White Eagle is not an ordinary award. It represents a special connection with the Polish state and the special gratitude of the people," Zelensky said.
According to him, the Polish side described this order as a symbol of the state's highest trust and gratitude.
Zelensky also noted that if this award were associated with controversial figures such as Catherine II, Benito Mussolini, and Gerhard Schröder, Kyiv would not object to the matter.
He stated that Ukraine highly values cooperation with Poland and is grateful for the assistance provided in the war against Russia.
At the end of the statement, Zelensky said that he originally considered in 2023 that this order was actually dedicated to the Ukrainian people and army.
"Today I returned this order to the Polish president. The future confirms the respect for Ukrainians," he said.
For reference, Volodymyr Zelensky was awarded the Order of the White Eagle in April 2023. At that time, Polish President Andrzej Duda emphasized that this award is given to individuals who have rendered special services to Poland.
