The project envisions transporting cargo from China to Europe via a land route through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus, and Turkey. This route could deliver goods in 12–15 days, whereas by sea it takes approximately 40 days.
Ankara is also working on opening the border with Armenia. The crossing point, closed for 32 years, could be reopened, which is considered an important link for the new route.
The project is also linked to the US-backed TRIPP initiative and is being considered within the framework of peace processes between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At the same time, experts emphasize that logistical complexity, incompatibility of railway systems, and political risks are the main obstacles for the project.
