A joint statement for the media was made following the results of the talks held with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko within the framework of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to the Republic of Belarus.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev assessed the outcome of the talks as a historical stage in the relations between the two countries and emphasized that the main result of the visit was the signing of the Declaration on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership Relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus.
According to the head of state, this document will bring the cooperation between the two countries to a qualitatively new level and create a solid legal foundation for strengthening long-term strategic partnership.
Particular attention was paid to trade and economic cooperation during the talks. The parties agreed on a comprehensive set of measures to bring the volume of mutual trade to 2 billion dollars. To this end, it is planned to implement joint projects in agriculture, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, microelectronics, textiles, furniture manufacturing, and other sectors.
An agreement was also reached on using Belarusian experience in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan and its supporting infrastructure.
The heads of state noted the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary ties, enhancing interregional cooperation, and further deepening collaboration within the framework of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
During the talks, agreements were also reached on expanding joint programs in the fields of culture, education, healthcare, and tourism, as well as on holding forums on medicine, education, and tourism this year.
In concluding the statement, Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly commended the initiative to establish the Uzbekistan-Belarus Friendship Avenue in Minsk and stressed that today's visit will serve to further strengthen strategic partnership between the two countries.
