UN General Assembly adopted the resolution put forward on Uzbekistan's initiative
At the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York, the resolution **«On Strengthening the Role of Parliaments in Accelerating Social Development»** was adopted by an absolute majority of votes of the member states.
This initiative was first put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2020. In subsequent years, as a result of the consistent efforts of Uzbekistan's diplomatic corps, this idea was shaped into an international document and widely supported.
The resolution specifically recognizes the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, successfully held in the city of Tashkent, and the Tashkent Declaration adopted there.
The document pays special attention to the issues of expanding the participation of women and youth in the activities of parliaments, supporting developing countries, as well as strengthening international cooperation in the social sphere.
In the voting process held for the adoption of the resolution, 167 states supported it. Also, 61 states of the world, including Austria, Germany, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Spain, participated as co-authors of Uzbekistan's initiative.
