The newly elected president of the USA, Donald Trump, called Putin. He discussed with him the urgent end of the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump reminded of Washington's “important military involvement in Europe” and urged the Russian president to avoid escalation, as reported by The Washington Post.
"The Ukrainian government was informed about the conversation between Trump and Putin, and Kyiv did not object," the publication writes.
According to a report by Reuters, one day before this phone conversation, Trump had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and promised to support Kyiv.
