The European Union's ambassador to Syria, Michael Onmacht, has established “first contacts” with the country's new leadership. This was announced by the head of the European Union's diplomatic department, Kaja Kallas.
"There should be no “vacuum” in Syria, the presence of the European Union is necessary there," she said.
According to Kallas, a condition for dialogue is the clearing of Syria of Russian military bases. Through these facilities, Russia is active in Africa and other countries in the “Global South,” which "also raises concerns for European security," the representative said.
