A citizen living in the Qo'qishtuvon neighborhood of Romitan district of Bukhara region was found to be illegally keeping a wild lion cub in his home. The press service of the regional Ecology Department reported this.

An inspection carried out by the Ecology Department of the Bukhara region, the district internal affairs department, and National Guard officers confirmed the citizen was keeping the wild animal without the necessary permissions.

Based on the first part of Article 92−1 of the Code on Administrative Responsibility (Keeping prohibited wild animals), an administrative report was drafted against the violator, and the case was referred to court. The lion cub was temporarily placed in a zoo. Additional information is expected after the court decision.

In accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated November 5, 2024, from January 1, 2025, certain wild animals will be prohibited from being kept by individuals in semi-free conditions or in captivity. Additionally, the use of wild animals for shows in state and traveling circuses will also be banned.

Only legal entities with the necessary permissions from the Ministry of Ecology can keep animals in zoos, breeding farms, and similar institutions. Wild animals listed in the Red Book must be kept in specialized breeding farms.
