The winner of the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, Calin Georgescu, was arrested. After the results were annulled, Georgescu expressed his intention to nominate himself again for the presidency.
According to local television channels, on the morning of February 26, searches were conducted in the homes of Georgescu's supporters as part of an investigation into the formation of a fascist or racist organization. The presidential candidate is being investigated as a suspect in this case.
In November 2024, Calin Georgescu won the first round of the presidential elections with 23% of the vote. However, the Constitutional Court of the country annulled the election results and set a new date. Documents related to Georgescu's election campaign, disclosed by Romanian special services, alleged that Romania had been subjected to "aggressive actions" by Russia. However, Georgescu has been denying his connections with Russia.
