Russia's "AlfaInsurance" company has fully settled the insurance claim for the Embraer 190 airplane crash.

According to the report by "Report" publication, as reported, this was announced to the "Interfax" agency by the deputy director in charge of aviation and space insurance at "AlfaInsurance", Ilya Kabachnik.

"The Embraer 190 aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), which crashed near the city of Aqtobe in Kazakhstan, along with the carrier's liability towards passengers, was insured by "AlfaInsurance". The primary risk was reinsured by the "Russian National Reinsurance Company" (RNRC). The payment for the airplane was made in full in February 2025," – he said.

At the same time, he did not disclose the amount of compensation for the aviation hull, but experts estimate it at approximately 25–30 million dollars.

Kabachnik explained why the insurer did not feel the need to wait for the official investigation results of the aviation accident:

"The investigation of the crash is ongoing, but we have sufficient information to proceed with the payments. For us as an insurer, the main fact is the disappearance of the airplane, which does not raise any doubts. Since the risks of war and terrorism were also insured, the airline receives compensation in any case," – he said.

Regarding the insurance contract for the carrier's liability to a third party, Kabachnik added: "No claims regarding ground damages have been received, and we do not expect any. If there are, we will follow the established procedure together with the airline".

As a reminder, the passenger plane of AZAL airline flying the Baku-Grozny route crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on December 25, 2024. Out of the 67 people onboard, 38 died, and 29 survived.

According to preliminary information, the plane crashed in the Russian airspace near Grozny due to external physical and technical impact. Initial analyses have indicated that the crash was caused by the explosion of a missile belonging to Russia near the aircraft.
