The main factors leading to child begging in Uzbekistan have been identified as some parents making this their profession and the severity of the social situation in some families. The Children's Ombudsman reported this in a message.
According to the report, analyses have shown that unemployment among parents is also contributing to the involvement of children in begging.
Furthermore, in many cases, children involved in begging are being excluded from compulsory general education. It has been disclosed that legal actions are being taken against parents who allow such situations.
“Human” social service centers are examining each case individually and providing targeted assistance to families. The centers are working not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure children's rights to education, the report says.
