Russia Removes the Taliban from List of Terrorist Organizations

On April 17, 2025, the Supreme Court of Russia reviewed the issue of removing the Taliban movement from the country’s list of terrorist organizations. The group was originally designated as a terrorist organization in Russia in 2003.

The court considered the current situation following the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan and Russia’s regional interests. As a result of the ruling, the ban on the Taliban’s activities in Russia has been lifted.

This decision indicates Russia’s intention to establish dialogue and cooperation with the new government in Afghanistan. At the same time, it has sparked mixed reactions in the international community, as many countries still recognize the Taliban as a terrorist organization.
