In January of this current year, an individual was detained in Azerbaijan, identified and taken into custody as a preventative measure, and has been handed over to Uzbekistan. This is reported by the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan here.
It is noted that the request to transfer the citizen of Uzbekistan, O.R., born in 1962, for the execution of the sentence under part 4, paragraph “a” of Article 168 (fraud in a very large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been satisfied by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Based on the Convention on “Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters” dated October 7, 2002, the decision on the extradition of O.R. was made, and he was handed over to the competent authority of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the supervision of a special convoy of the Ministry of Justice's Penitentiary Service.
