The Taliban, who have seized power in Afghanistan, are actively continuing oil extraction operations in the country's northern regions. In particular, five new wells have been brought into operation in the Amu Darya basin located in Jawzjan province.
According to the Taliban Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, oil extraction from these wells has officially begun. The project’s inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, with Taliban Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar also in attendance.
According to expert calculations, the new wells are expected to produce approximately 500 cubic meters of oil daily. This is regarded as a significant step for the country's economy.
The Amu Darya oil and gas basin is considered a major resource area encompassing several northern provinces of Afghanistan. Since the Taliban returned to power, special attention has been paid to developing natural resources and increasing oil extraction volumes in this region.
Observers believe that the expansion of oil extraction projects could help revive Afghanistan's economy. At the same time, the international community is closely monitoring these processes.
