The legendary Alcatraz prison might be reopened.

According to a post on his Truth social network, Donald Trump has decided to reopen and expand the prison on the famous Alcatraz island located in the San Francisco Bay. This prison was closed 62 years ago.

Trump believes that this prison will hold the most dangerous criminals and will become a "symbol of law, order, and justice."

Alcatraz was originally built as a military fort. In the early 20th century, it was converted into a military prison. Later, in the 1930s, the prison was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Civil Justice Department. There, for example, the legendary gangster Al Capone was imprisoned.

After the prison was closed, several feature films were shot about Alcatraz and the events that took place there. Currently, this place is operating as a tourist attraction.

The reason for the prison's closure was its high cost — according to the site of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, maintaining Alcatraz was three times more expensive than other federal prisons.

According to Trump's plan, the reopened Alcatraz will only hold the most dangerous criminals for society. This initiative is expected to cause significant controversy in the USA.
